Du- and Tri- Newbie

I am a newbie at this, but have done previous running and biking events. I have taken a 2 month break, but am ready to dive in again. I need to get back in to the swing of things with the running and biking, but want to pick up the swimming part. Would like to do the VADU in April and my first Tri in June. Eager to get started, but need some direction!
